The lot is cast into the lap, but the decision is wholly of the Lord [even the events that seem accidental are really ordered by Him].- Proverbs 16:33 AMP
In 2 Kings 8:1-6, Elisha told the woman (whose son was brought back to life) to relocate to another place with her family because famine was coming to the land and it would last for seven years.
She obeyed God’s Word spoken through His servant (Elisha) and sojourned in the land of the Philistines for seven years. After the famine, she returned and went to see the king about getting her house and land back.
As she walked in to beg the king for her property, Gehazi (Elisha’s servant) was with the king telling him how Elisha had brought a dead boy back to life. When he saw her, he said:
“My master and king, this is the woman, and this is the son Elisha brought back to life.” The king asked the woman, and she told him about it. Then the king chose an officer to help her. “Give the woman everything that is hers,” the king said. “Give her all the money made from her land from the day she left until now.” – 2 Kings 8:6 NCV
This is proof that God is in control. Was it a coincidence that she walked in as Gehazi was telling the king about her? No, it was a divine appointment – a meeting inspired and led by God. It wasn’t by happenstance or a twist of fate.
When the Lord brought her son back to life (2 Kings 4:8-37), He hadn’t finished with her. He knew that there would be famine in the land and even protected her during that period by giving her advance warning (through the man of God, Elisha) to move to another place.
God already went ahead of her so she did not need to beg the king to have her property back. Instead, a testimony about her life and her family describing God’s miraculous power paved the way for her. Everything she lost was given back to her plus more!
No matter your station in life right now, God is in control (and let Him be in control). If you try to do it your own way, you will be frustrated.
